You have been given a lab slip for a postoperative sperm count. This lab test is to be carried out approximately three months following your vasectomy. During this time be certain to maintain birth control measures.
Between the time of your surgery and the time that you have your first sperm count, it is very important that you have a minimum of 30 ejaculations. If you do fewer than 30 ejaculations, chances are high that you will have a test that shows sperm still in your semen. This will result in the need for extra testing and additional expense and inconvenience to you. If you have any questions about this, please contact your physician.
We need to obtain at least two consecutive negative (no sperm seen) results, done at least one month apart, before you may discontinue birth control measures. If the sperm counts reveal the presence of sperm, you will be advised by your physician to repeat sperm counts until two consecutive negative results are obtained.
The specimen should be collected in the sterile container and dropped off at the:
